Through my experience, I can safely say that most parents don't have an unlimited budget when going through the athletic recruiting process. Chances are you are considering, or doing a good portion of this process yourself in an effort of trying to save money and be more involved.
You are considering or have been approached by a recruiting service. But like most parents, because it is your son or daughter you want your child to be alble to live their dream and play Division 1 sports. So you wonder just how much time is an agent going to spend working for you and if they care if your child goes to State U. or the local Junior College, because truthfully they will be paid the same.
For those that have not dealt with it yet, recruiting service agents
travel the country and in different areas visiting high schools in order
to sign up prospects. This really is a never ending process that happens
during every school year simply becasue their clients graduate and move
on to the college level. And the more athletes that they help open doors
to the Division 1 level, the better it looks on their resume.
The cheapest recruiting service that I have seen was about $2000; they
can get up to $5000. One of the main selling points that these services
sell, whether it is basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, or any
other sport, is that they send your profile out to every college in the
country. I have talked to college coaches about this and they feel like
these services don't match skill level with division level, and a really
good athlete isn't using a recruiting service that indiscriminately
sends out mass mailing of their athletes. These services advertise the
athlete as is, academically and athletically.
It is for this exact reason that Total Athlete was formed. Our staff
were players that went throught the recruiting process themselves or,
and are parents that have gone through the process also. Emphasis is
placed on academics and improving an individuals standing throughout the
recruiting process. Like wise, improving a kids athletic skills, is
emphasized throughout the recruiting process.
Cost are monitored, so that only the necessary exposure cost are used,
and that money can be directed to pre-act testing, tutoring, and etc.,.
And all areas are considered in matching an athlete with the best
institution that fits their academic and athlete endeavors. The total
athlete is our priority!
